Transcribe! Help : Markers menu commands

New Section Marker

This command creates a new section marker, typically used for the start of a chorus or verse or whatever. If playback is in progress the marker is placed at the point currently playing, otherwise you will be asked whether to put it at the current point or the currently paused play point, if playback is paused. See Markers.

Shortcuts: Keys: S Note that if playback is paused or stopped then the shortcut <shift>S will bypass the dialog and place the marker directly at the paused or current point.

New Measure Marker

This command creates a new measure marker, typically used for the start of a measure or bar. If playback is in progress the marker is placed at the point currently playing, otherwise you will be asked whether to put it at the current point or the currently paused play point, if playback is paused. See Markers.

Shortcuts: Keys: M Note that if playback is paused or stopped then the shortcut <shift>M will bypass the dialog and place the marker directly at the paused or current point.

New Beat Marker

This command creates a new beat marker. If playback is in progress the marker is placed at the point currently playing, otherwise you will be asked whether to put it at the current point or the currently paused play point, if playback is paused. See Markers.

Shortcuts: Keys: B Note that if playback is paused or stopped then the shortcut <shift>B will bypass the dialog and place the marker directly at the paused or current point.

Delete selected markers

This command deletes all markers in the selected region (use the mouse to select a region of the piece). It will first tell you how many there are and ask you to confirm the deletion. See Markers.

Compute tempo

This command computes the tempo of the piece in beats per minute. You must first use the mouse to select a region of the piece, and this region must have exactly one marker (section, measure or beat - automatically generated subdivision markers are ignored) on each beat or the computation will be wrong. Transcribe! simply counts how many markers there are in the selected region, measures the time from the first marker to the last, does a division to get the average time per beat, and reports this in beats per minute. Transcribe! reports the tempo of the original file irrespective of any tuning or playback speed alterations. See Markers.

This command also checks that all the between-marker-gaps in the selected section are approximately similar in size, and issues a warning if they're not. This is in case you accidentally put one marker on top of another, which would cause an incorrect tempo calculation.
